Les risques potentiels connus associés à l’intervention de DCP incluent, entre autres, une aggravation des symptômes de la BPCO (essoufflement, aggravation de la toux, exacerbations de la BPCO), une expectoration de mucus teinté de sang, des difficultés à avaler, une douleur thoracique, des maux d’estomac ou une sensation de satiété, des troubles gastriques et de la fièvre.
